Submission Guides

Who To Submit To:

Address your submissions to:

SUBMISSIONS, SCARLET ROSE PRODUCTIONS
P.O. Box 51117 Centre Domaine
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, H1N-3T8

All submissions are non-returnable, so please, send photocopies only, never originals. No SASE (Self-Addressed-Stamped-Envelope) necessary. Allow three to four weeks for a reply.

Writers:

Submit short plot synopsises, double-spaced, no more than one page in length. Establish the characters and situation, introduce the story motive, show the resolution. Two double-spaced pages of dialogue should be included with your synopsis to show your facility with conversations.

Pencillers:

We are looking for two things in all pencil art submissions:

  • 1) Your ability to tell a story through pictures
  • 2) Your ability to draw well (anatomy, backgrounds, perspective)

Art should be done on a 10" by 15" area within an 11" by 17" artboard. Artboards are traditionally Strathmore 2-ply coldpress cardboard, or any other which prevent pencil lines from smudging and ink lines from breaking. Pencillers generally use an HB pencil (we do not encourage the use of non-repro blue pencils).

Send three to five pages of pencilled work.

    Inkers:

An inker's job is to add clarity and depth to the penciller's art.

Professional inkers use India ink and various pens and brushes. Graphic white is used to correct the occasional mistake, and sometimes for "special effects." A well balanced use of Shading films (zip-a-tone) can also give the art more depth.

Submit three to five pages of inked artwork, preferably from several different pencillers so we can see how you handle a variety of pencil styles.
